Endodontics

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry concerning diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the dental pulp and tissues surrounding the roots of a tooth.

Endodontic treatment, or root canal treatment, is applied in the case of teeth with inflammatory process affecting the dental pulp. Such diseases are often accompanied by the following symptoms:

  • severe toothache
  • pain when chewing or exerting pressure
  • prolonged sensitivity to temperature
  • dark discolouration of the tooth
  • gingival oedema and hypersensitivity

The attending dentist may diagnose the symptoms and refer their patient to microscopic root canal treatment performed by an endodontist. The microscopic root canal treatment consists in 6x to 25x magnification of the treated tooth image using a high class surgical microscope. This extent of magnification provides insight into the pulp chamber, enlarged image of roots and root canals invisible to the naked eye, as well as visualisation of the molar teeth located in the back of the oral cavity. Obtaining so detailed an image ensures precision when performing root canal treatment procedure and reduces the risk of reinfection. Root canal treatment is the simplest and least expensive method that facilitates keeping your own teeth. At the first visit, the dentist gives the first diagnosis based on a radiological examination in the form of either RVG or computed tomography, as required. Core beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a fast, non-invasive and precise examination facilitating root canal treatment planning. Thanks to these innovative methods, the dentist restores the tooth during a visit, taking care of the patient’s comfort and minimising the risk of tooth fracture.

Is it a good idea to choose microscopic endodontic treatment?

Microscopic root canal treatment is a modern method that saves time and money. The degree of precision achieved with the microscopic root canal treatment enables successful treatment of teeth that could not be properly prepared and filled without obtaining such a detailed view. Thanks to high degree of magnification and precise illumination of the treated area, all cavities are clearly visible, even in the early stage of their formation. The detailed view enables treatment of many dental problems before they progress to a stage that would require much more difficult and expensive treatment.

Out clinic offers the following endodontic treatments:

  • Pulp extirpation
  • Pulp devitalisation
  • Pulp gangrene treatment
  • Root canal preparation and filling
  • Endodontic treatment of a tooth with a prosthetic crown

Microscopic endodontic treatment

  • Primary treatment
  • Repeated treatment
  • Removal of a broken tool
  • Crown root insert removal

The Medyk Stomatologia team can save even the most problematic tooth by means of root canal treatment.
